Always a Happy Tail

A Different Kind of Dog Care

At Happy Tails Toledo, we’re not a mega 100-dog facility—and that’s exactly what makes us special. Our smaller size means more one-on-one attention, smaller play groups, calmer spaces, and care that’s truly tailored to your dog’s needs. Whether your pup is anxious, laid-back, or full of energy, we meet them where they are.

Every dog goes through a gentle temperament test so we can place them in a playgroup that matches their vibe. Whether it’s zoomies and tug-of-war or quiet snuggles and one-on-one strolls through our calming scent garden of lavender and rosemary, we make sure every dog feels safe, comfortable, and right at home here at Happy Tails.

A Loving Environment for Your Furry Friends

Happy Tails is more than a boarding facility—it’s a place for pets to play, learn, and get pampered.

Our daycare keeps energetic pups entertained, training helps them build confidence, and our grooming options (plus self-serve dog wash) ensure they go home looking and feeling their best.

With a passionate, experienced team behind every tail wag, your pet isn’t just staying somewhere — they’re part of the Happy Tails family.

A Legacy of Care, Reimagined

From 1982 to 2002, 2814 Glendale Ave. was home to Ewert Animal Hospital, led by Dr. Hans Ewert—a beloved neighborhood veterinarian who spent over a decade caring for lions, cheetahs, and other wildlife as a large animal vet at the Toledo Zoo before opening his own clinic. Known for his deep compassion and dedication, Dr. Ewert became a trusted figure in the community for over 40 years.

Today, his family carries that legacy forward, reimagining the same space as Happy Tails Toledo—a warm, welcoming place for dogs, cats, and pets of all kinds. Though the services have changed, the mission remains the same: compassionate, personalized care for every animal that walks through the door.

How Happy Tails Came to Be

Happy Tails Toledo opened its doors in November 2024 inside a space with deep roots in the local pet community. Once home to Ewert Animal Hospital, the building had long been a neighborhood hub for compassionate care. That legacy continues today—reimagined by the Ewert family as a warm, modern pet care facility for dogs, cats, and even small pets like guinea pigs, rabbits, and the occasional duck (kept safe and separate, of course).

Built on a love for animals and a commitment to community, Happy Tails Toledo was never meant to be a chain or a franchise. It’s a locally owned space where pets feel at home, and where pet parents know their companions are in good hands.

From festive photo days to partnerships with local schools and animal welfare groups, Happy Tails Toledo is proud to be part of the Toledo community—where animals come first and tails always wag a little brighter.
